Kalyan Mandap in the Veerabhadra Temple
of Lepakshi
In the courtyard of the Veerbhadra temple of Lepakshi,
some pillars stand in an open space which looks like incomplete. There is a
painfully mysterious story behind it. It is about those days. When the kings of
Vijayanagara were on Deshatan. In his absence, the Lekhakar, who was the
builder of the Kalyan Mandap at that time, started the construction of the
Kalyan Mandap. In which a lot of money of the state was spent. After coming
back, when the king came to know about this unreasonable expenditure, he
immediately stopped the construction of the Kalyan Mandap. Together they
punished the Lekhakar, pronounced the decision to remove both the eyes of the Lekhakar. Due to this, the Lekhakar was saddened and himself took out both
his eyes and throw on a wall of the Virbhadra temple. Due to which two
marks were made in the wall and the marks of blood can still be seen in both of
the marks.
